While at college, she received the ‘Best in School’ illustration award from The Council of Fashion Designers of America. During that time, she also was a co-owner of a non-profit corporation called Musa Inc, which was created to award scholarships to upcoming fashion talent, and also to fund a major fashion show in Savannah.During her junior year, Deirdra went to New York to intern with Mark Montano, who would eventually become her mentor. After graduation, she moved to New York, where she worked on projects for many designers, including Perry Ellis, Abercrombie & Fitch, Target, and Steven Alan. In between and during these projects, she also ran her own boutique, selling punkinyc exclusively to clients all over the world.
Punkinnyc was formed in New York City in 2005. Deirdra's objective when she started the company, was to create dresses and coats for every woman, using the best possible fabric and local workmanship. It's important to Deirdra that each of the pieces are flattering to every body type, and very comfortable and easy to wear.
Deirdra believes everybody should be able to purchase the highest quality products at a reasonable cost and has decided to produce her range to the wholesale industry. We are currently selling in NYC, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Boston, and to online retailers, and would like to add more shops to our portfolio.
